Rita Shmulevsky has worked for JFCS since 2008, starting as bilingual case manager serving Russian Jewish immigrants, low-income seniors, and people with disabilities. Rita’s largest accomplishment at JFCS has been her role in creating and maintaining several programs for Holocaust survivors, such as home care, case management, emergency aid, and assistance in applying for individual reparations.
Rita is professionally fluent in both speaking and writing the Russian and English languages. She holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science/ Mathematics Education from Latvia State University. After immigrating to the U.S. and settling in Portland with the help of JFCS and the local Jewish community, Rita worked as a Programmer Analyst for a big insurance company and as a Real Estate Broker/Principal Broker for a small real estate office, managing six realtors.
Besides enjoying helping people, Rita is a passionate reader. She also likes writing stories after attending a two-year advanced creative writing program at Portland Community College. Rita is an active member of the Portland Jewish community, and a member of Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which she attends with her family a few times a year.
