With funding from a Federal grant, Jewish Family & Child Service launched the JFCS NORC Project in 2008, a nonsectarian program designed to help North Portland neighborhood residents successfully age-in-place.
Background
Jewish Family & Child Service received federal funding in 2008 from the U.S. Administration on Aging to launch a Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC) Project based in North Portland. Residents in this underserved area of the city share similar objectives and goals for the welfare of neighborhood seniors, and for the last year the JFCS NORC Project has partnered with Arbor Lodge and other North Portland agencies and organizations to create a mutually beneficial collaboration.
What’s a " NORC? "
A Naturally Occurring Retirement Community is any neighborhood, building complex or geographic area where residents have established a longstanding living arrangement, complete with neighbors, familiarity and mutual support. NORC Projects are collaborative partnerships designed to serve all older adults in the community. They are intended to respond to gaps, enhance existing services and are rooted in the needs of each distinct community.
Who can participate in the NORC Project?
Anyone over 60 who resides in Arbor Lodge and adjacent North Portland areas.
Do I have to be Jewish to be part of the NORC Project?
Absolutely not. The NORC Project is open to residents of all backgrounds and faiths.
